Chinese Toys For Christmas….Maybe Not

August 14, 2007

Pardon me while I stick my nose in.  If you have children, avoid painted toys from China.  I work in the lead industry, and you can’t imagine how serious this is.  The miniscule amounts of lead required to send your blood levels soaring is  just not comprehensibile to someone that doesn’t deal with it on a daily basis.  I spend my day virtually hermetically sealed inside of clothing, and respirators, and latex gloves.

The standard behaviours causing contamination with lead are ingestion (eating) and Inhalation (breathing).  This means being in close proximity to these toys is is almost a gaurantee of increased lead levels in your child.  The result can be permanent and catastrophic.  Brain damage and death are possible, and it’s just not worth the couple of bucks you save buying cheap imports.

I didn’t use a lot of numbers here, because they don’t matter.  What matters is the safety of your children, and that you do not take this problem lightly.

Here’s the list of the latest recall.

6 a.m. hateful

August 14, 2007

first day of school here…teenagers clunking around the house, destroying my tenuous grasp on early morning sanity.

the clamour is deafening, since I’m used to the only sounds being mollies toe nails and roscoe’s grunting.

Have to get used to this again.  No arguing…that’s one good thing about morning.  They’re too tired  to interact.

It’s my protege’s birthday, so no work for him, and its going to rain so I’m going to hide…so no work for me.

i think justifiable homicide is a lot easier to buy into before morning break.

of course not…i would never…but if I don’t ever write here again…that’s what happened

How Ron Paul Votes

August 14, 2007

I found a pretty good page while I was looking for financial disclosure information.  It’s available at the same place as his voting history.  What I like about the page is it is a major news source, so likely accurate, and it gives you a day by day accounting of Ron Paul’s, or any other congressional members, votes on whatever votes were held in the House that day.  It also has a lot of historic voting data, and is a great place for you to go learn about Ron Paul.  Due to the increased interest I have to assume some of you don’t know much about him

I was a little surprised to see that he has missed 20% of the votes this year.  I’m going to assume that’s a result of the campaign schedule.

The more I talk about him in everyday life, the more I hear the words “I’ve never heard of him.”  This is particularly interesting in that most of the people I talk to like what he has to say once enlightened.  I’m not so much a fan as a crap stirrer.  I like to start balls rolling and see what happens when they run into things.
